MBL is an emblem of quality in the food industries, standing for reliability, value, co-operation and innovation.

Historically we’ve been known as Master Butchers Co-operative Limited, during a time when we primarily served the meat industry. While some things haven’t changed since 1905, a lot has, and the range of businesses we serve includes so much more than just butchers. To reflect who and where we are today, we’re now known simply as MBL.

Our Co-Operative provides a unique opportunity for connection and collaboration with like-minded businesses in the industry, alongside a host of other benefits exclusive to members. Members are entitled to a number of key benefits, including an annual rebate calculated on patronage, a level of buying power, and a tailored relationship with MBL as your dedicated supplier. The MBL Co-Operative sets a true standard of equity for members, with a focus on mutually beneficial outcomes and shared success in the industry.

Our constitution is an important part of our history and heritage as a Co-Operative in South Australia, and reflects our long-held respect for masters of their craft. Today, we’ve redefined what a ‘Master Butcher’ is in the context of our membership to welcome any variety of food or beverage manufacturers to the Co-Op.

In the constitution you’ll find an evolved definition of what a Master Butcher is, and that it includes any business that falls in the ‘food manufacturing’ category. We retain the reference to Master Butchers as a nod to our heritage, while looking ahead to the future of our Co-Op and the benefits it will continue to bring for members.
