MBL Wins Major State Sustainability Award
On Friday night, MBL was honored to win the Sustainability & Waste Management award at the South Australian Premiers Food & Beverage Industry Awards gala dinner.
Presented by Food South Australia, the night showcased the very best the state has to offer, with local businesses and producers celebrated for their passion, innovation and commitment to excellence.
The Sustainability & Waste Management award recognises a business that has demonstrated excellence in its effort to reduce their carbon footprint and integrate sustainability within its business model. The win is a great reward for effort after MBL was a finalist for the same category in 2023 but ultimately falling short.
It was outlined that MBL’s point of difference amongst other finalists was that sustainability and waste management is at the core of everyday operations and not something that is ‘bolted on’ in a bid to become more sustainable.
MBL was judged independently on all aspects of the cooperative including product range, operations and customer education. A standout department being the ‘MBL Proteins’ divisions at Wingfield and Kieth. The unique and essential service of recycling and repurposing byproducts from the food industry to create products such as pet food, fertilisers and aeronautical fuels creates a fantastic circular economy.
Additionally, MBL Chairman George Ujvary was awarded The Food SA Leader Award and PARC Bar & Brasserie (metro) and the Watervale Hotel (regional) were awarded the Eat, Drink Local award which was sponsored by MBL.
